Assistant Professor of Political Science
Dr. Yamauchi received his Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University in 2022.
His dissertation earned an honorable mention for the John T. Williams Dissertation Proposal Prize from the Society for Political Methodology. From 2022 to 2025, he was a data scientist at Google, where he focused on latency optimization and experimentation in Google Search.
Dr. Yamauchi’s research lies in the field of political methodology, with a particular focus on developing statistical methods for causal inference, survey analysis, and the integration of human- and machine-coded data. His work addresses applications in public opinion, political behavior, and policy evaluation, and has been published in the American Political Science Review and Political Analysis.
At UC San Diego, Dr. Yamauchi will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in political methodology and data science. His methodological expertise will strengthen the department’s offerings in quantitative methods and expand opportunities for students to engage in quantitative social science research.
