Profile
Scott Desposato is Simón Bolívar Chair of Latin American Studies and Professor of Political Science. He is an expert on democratic institutions and representation, and also publishes on research ethics. Specific projects have examined redistricting in the United States, electoral rules in Latin America, gender and racial bias in elections, party-switching by politicians, political campaigns, and statistical methods for studying legislatures. He co-chaired the American Political Science Association’s committee to develop new guidelines for ethical research with human subjects and he served as Director of Latin American Studies. In 2020, he received a Fulbright Scholar Award to conduct research in Brazil.
